Your shoulder is a classic ball-and-socket joint where two bones connect, allowing an incredible range of motion. In the case of your shoulder, the bones connecting are your humerus (upper arm) and scapula (shoulder blade). These bones are then connected to your shoulder joint to your clavicle (collarbone).
Holding all this in place are crucial connective tissues made up of muscles and tendons. The most important of these is your rotator cuff, which keeps your arm firmly centered in your shoulder socket. Your shoulder socket is where cartilage comes together to form your labrum, ringing the outer edge of the socket to give it more strength and stability.
In between these major players are small, but important components called bursae that provide lubrication. While they may be small in size, when they’re inflamed they can cause big problems.
The most common causes of shoulder pain are:
+ Rotator cuff strains or tears
+ Labral tear
Relying on his expertise as an orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Gorin performs diagnostic testing to determine the cause of your shoulder pain. He then develops a treatment plan that provides relief for your pain and helps you regain function in your shoulder.
His goal in all musculoskeletal problems is to find the least invasive solution possible, so he typically starts you off with nonsurgical treatments such as:
+ Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications
+ Physical therapy
+ Corticosteroid injections
If your shoulder problem requires surgical intervention, rest assured that Dr. Gorin has a number of options, most of which he performs arthroscopically. These include:
+ Rotator cuff repair
+ Labral, or SLAP, repair
+ Bankart repair to stabilize your labrum
+ Shoulder resurfacing
+ Shoulder replacement
When it comes to soft tissue, Dr. Gorin is able to use arthroscopic techniques to restore strength, movement, and stability.
Shoulder replacement and resurfacing are great solutions for cases of osteoarthritis where your cartilage has worn down completely. Whether Dr. Gorin replaces or resurfaces your shoulder joint, his goal is to allow your bones to glide together smoothly again.
After any of these procedures, Dr. Gorin works with you to rehabilitate properly, protecting you against future problems.

Listen to what our patients have to say about their experience with Dr. Gorin.
Dr. Gorin and his staff are beyond amazing. I was actually late to my appointment and still seen almost right away. Everyone is very friendly! The office is impeccable and pretty, with state of the art clean equipment. I was quite impressed. Dr. Gorin was thorough and professional but still friendly and funny. He was honest with his suggestions and very helpful. I felt well taken care of and highly recommend his practice especially if you are athletic, he seems very specialized in this area which I loved.
I found the whole experience with Dr. Gorin and his staff to be absolutely top class. The staff were bright, professional and courteous. Dr Gorin did an exceptional job of explaining his diagnosis and I left feeling that I couldn’t be in better hands.
I fractured my wrist and needed to see him after an emergency visit I called the answering service and left a message after 15 min he called me back and you don't see that level of care anymore from a physician but Dr. Steven Gorin cares and the following day he was able to see me. I will never go to another orthopedic again if I can help it.
Dr. Gorin and his staff were efficient, thorough and genial in providing service to my 90-year old mother-in-law. We appreciated the short wait times through the intake, x-ray and exam/consultation processes.
Has to be the best overall doctor/healthcare experience I’ve had. I went to Dr. Gorin for a second opinion and he should have been my first.
Dr. Gorin was kind and compassionate and took his time to explain my condition and treatment options. Fantastic experience!
Very knowledgeable, pleasant in and out, with very hi tech equipment and attentive personal. Strongly recommend. He will help.
