Sports medicine is a field of healthcare designed specifically for the athlete.
The goal of sports medicine is threefold:
+ To help athletes perform better
+ To prevent injury
+ To quickly rehabilitate an injury
In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Gorin has a postgraduate degree in sports medicine, making him uniquely qualified to help you lead a healthy, active lifestyle, enjoying the sports you love most.
Whether you’re a weekend warrior slugging it out on the community softball field, or you’re a competitive athlete who relies on physical fitness, Dr. Gorin is with you every step of the way to ensure you’re performing at your best.
Sports are rife with injury, the most common of which include:
+ Groin pulls
+ Ankle sprains
+ Knee injuries, such as ACL or meniscus tears
+ Tennis elbow
+ Rotator cuff tears
+ Fractures
+ Shin splints
+ Low back strains or sprains
While some sports injuries are hard to avoid, such as a tackle in football, many can be avoided with the right preventive care.
As a sports medicine specialist, one of Dr. Gorin’s primary goals is helping you avoid injury in the first place. To do this, he first performs a comprehensive exam to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your musculoskeletal system.
During your sports physical, Dr. Gorin gathers your medical history, performs a complete physical examination that tests for strength, balance, and reflexes, and conducts a functional analysis.
This last point is an important one. Knowing the stresses each activity places on different areas of your body, Dr. Gorin watches how your body functions under these stresses and points out ways you can avoid injury and even improve your performance.
As part of your sports exam, Dr. Gorin also conducts a sports injury assessment so you’re aware of your risk for injury. By identifying your weak spots, Dr. Gorin works with you to strengthen these areas.
If you are injured, Dr. Gorin will do everything in his power to help you heal as quickly as possible, sending you back to your sport as strong as before.
If you love your active life, don’t let a sports injury keep you out of the game. Call or book an appointment online with the Institute of Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics today to learn more about preventive sports medicine.
